M       aybe your friend is being mean to you,




                                  and doesn’t want to play with you,
                                  or even talk to you.



                                  Maybe some hurt feelings or thoughts
                                  come up in your mind,
                                  and you feel like crying or yelling,
                                  or even hitting your friend.


                                  Before you do anything hurtful
                                  to yourself or to somebody else,

                                  can you take a few seconds
                                  and take some deep breaths
                                  so your mind gets calm again?


                                  That’s called being aware, or mindful
                                  or quieting the mind, or meditation.


                                  Maybe when your mind is calmer,

                                  you can tell your friend how they hurt you.
                                  You can also tell another friend,
                                  or a grownup what happened.


                                  Maybe you can even practice breathing
                                  and meditation to get more mindful

                                  before your mind feels unhealthy,
                                  so the next time stuff like that happens,
                                  you won’t get so upset and unhappy.
